While the Trump administration has banned some Canadian imports, the rock musicians haven't made the list. Published Oct. 1, 2026 Claim: A screenshot authentically showed a social media post from U.S. President Donald Trump that banned listening to the Canadian rock band Rush starting Oct. 1. Rating: In September 2026, a screenshot (archived) circulated online that social media users claimed authentically showed a post from U.S. President Donald Trump that banned listening to the Canadian rock band Rush starting Oct. 1. The screenshot circulated as the Trump administration banned nearly $1 billion worth of Canadian imports including alcohol, dairy and motorcycles in the latest move in a trade war that started over tit-for-tat tariffs. The ban came into effect as Trump described the Canadian government as "very bad," but said they were being "taught a little lesson." One Facebook user who shared a screenshot of the alleged post wrote, " I don't think this is real but it's very funny." The post, which allegedly came from an account called @realDonaldTrump, read: Effective October 1, listening to the Canadian rock band RUSH will no longer be allowed in the United States. RUSH is a Canadian band, and Canada has been very unfair to our country for many years. Anyone caught listening to RUSH on the radio, streaming, or at home will be detained by ICE and deported to Canada. We will not support Canadian bands while they continue to take advantage of the United States. MAKE AMERICA LISTEN AMERICAN AGAIN! The screenshot also circulated on Threads (archived), where some users expressed confusion over whether it was an authentic post from the president. Multiple Snopes readers contacted us to ask if it was real. The post was fake, according to an Oct. 1, 2026, email from a spokesperson from the White House Press Office. We also found no evidence of the post on Trump's X or Truth Social accounts, both of which use the handle @realDonaldTrump. Additionally, the screenshot appeared to mix Trump's profile picture on X with his verified pink checkmark emblem on Truth Social. Trump's X account does not have a pink checkmark emblem, nor does his Truth Social account use the profile picture shown in the post. The source of the fake post was unclear. At the time of this writing, Rush, which formed in Toronto, Canada, in 1968, was on a multi-state tour of the U.S. in September and October 2026. The band had 12 dates planned across seven states in the month of October alone. For further reading, Snopes frequently debunks fake quotes attributed to Trump. Sources 'Fifty Something'.
