The congresswoman’s family entered the U.S. in 1995 as refugees who were fleeing war-torn Somalia, before resettling in Minneapolis.“There may be more to this, the whole family migration and possibly some illegal activity for them to come to the United States to begin with,” Mullin said. “All of this we are investigating…If we can prove it, that you shouldn’t have been here in the first place, we will deport you.”Days later, White House border czar Tom Homan confirmed in a Fox News interview that there is an “ongoing criminal investigation” into Omar. Once she had the papers, they could apply for student loans.”Around the time that Omar married Elmi, they started attending the same college, North Dakota State University.Definitive proof of a sibling relationship between Omar and Elmi has not been established in public records, but publicly accessible documents do show irregularities surrounding Omar’s two previous marriages and her household tax filings.Omar, the youngest of seven siblings, has been married to three different men at various points over the past 24 years, including periods of overlap in their relationships.In 2002, Omar married Ahmed Abdisalan Hirsi in a Muslim ceremony. Alpha News reported that Elmi promptly took down all the content. The first post’s publication date aligns with the 2012 birth date of Omar’s youngest child, whom she shares with Hirsi, according to biographical information filed in family court, and the girls depicted in the 2013 post appear to have been the ages of Omar’s two older children.In 2019, an investigation conducted by the Minnesota Campaign Finance and Public Disclosure Board discovered that Omar had jointly filed federal tax returns with Hirsi in 2014 and 2015, though she and Elmi were not yet divorced. She was ordered to subsequently correct the discrepancy.The Minnesota Star Tribune conducted an extensive examination of the marriage fraud claims against Omar in 2019, searching marriage and divorce records, business licenses, and university student files, but found little publicly available information about Elmi.
