Diabetes care needs greater focus on early detection, personalised treatment, experts say

Johan Sathyadas Around 750 doctors, healthcare professionals, and researchers participated in C.O.D.E. 2.0 (Conference on Diabetes Evolution), organised by the Club for Diabetes Excellence (C.O.D.E.), Chennai, on Sunday (September 6, 2026).Held on the theme ‘Transforming Diabetes Care through Innovation, Integration & Impact’, the conference discussed emerging approaches to diabetes management, including personalised care, technology-enabled monitoring, and newer therapies.Vijay Viswanathan, Head and Chief Diabetologist, M.V. Hospital for Diabetes, spoke on early identification and prevention of diabetic foot complications, focusing on screening and preventive strategies. He also launched We’re Not Alone, a book by Maulika, who is living with Type 1 diabetes. The book is published by the Tambaram Medical Foundation.Ashwin Karuppan, Founder and Chairman, C.O.D.E., said diabetes care required an integrated approach involving clinical care, knowledge, and community support. Aafrin Shabbir, CEO, C.O.D.E., said advances in technology, precision medicine, and research were changing diabetes care. .The conference was held under the guidance of V. Mohan, Chief Patron; Shashank R. Joshi, Organising Chairman; Banshi Saboo, Organising Secretary; Ashwin Karuppan, and Aafrin Shabbir, along with the advisory board, faculty, and participating healthcare professionals.
