Hall's Dexter Morgan will have more on his plate than expected. Dexter: Resurrection season 1 concluded with Dexter escaping from Leon Prater's (Peter Dinklage) secret vault of prized serial killer collectibles, but not before Prater became a killer himself by taking the life of Dexter's old Miami Metro colleague, Angel Batista (David Zayas). Dexter killed Prater and fled with several files of murderers who Prater was keeping tabs on, including the Midnight Mangler, the Yonkers Slayer, and Al Walker (Eric Stonestreet). That said, one killer who was not in Prater's files is the recently announced Five Borough Killer, who Dan Stevens will play as a new cast member in Dexter: Resurrection season 2. This development alters the implications made in the final moments of Dexter: Resurrection season 1, as Dexter drives a yacht on the Hudson River with a bag full of Prater's files, since it seemed that season 2's focus would shift to Dexter's pursuit of members of Prater's secret society specifically. With the addition of the Five Borough Killer, however, Dexter's ambitions may have to change, especially if the Zodiac-like killer becomes as big of an antagonist as past characters like the Trinity Killer and The Ice Truck Killer. Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 Introduces A Killer Outside Prater's Network The Five Borough Killer is a brand new character within. the Dexter universe who will make his first franchise appearance in Resurrection season 2. While Stevens is not the only big-name new cast member in the upcoming second season, which is expected to premiere sometime in October 2026, he is the most notable new addition to the story that wasn't already accounted for. The ending of Dexter: Resurrection season 1 left Detective Claudette Wallace (Kadia Saraf) with Prater's file on the New York Ripper, who will be played by franchise newcomer Brian Cox, so the NYPD will likely be looking to finally crack the case on him, unless Dexter can beat them to it. Little is known about the Five Borough Killer at this time other than his name, Owen Stark, and his killing MO, which has been likened to the infamous Zodiac Killer. Every Dexter season has typically introduced a new serial killer antagonist and target for Dexter, so this update isn't entirely surprising. However, the focus has potentially shifted from the killers that were in Prater's files that Dexter has on the yacht as he disposed of Prater's body to this new Five Borough Killer​​. Perhaps there will ultimately be some connection between Owen Stark and Leon Prater revealed in Resurrection season 2, but at this time, the series seems much more focused on Dexter's newest foe rather than making the entire second season about Dexter taking out Prater's society members one by one. The Five Borough Killer Reframes What Dexter's Season 1 Ending Sets Up Dexter taking a batch of Prater's files for his own safekeeping may end up only being a tease to set up a targeted revenge tour in Resurrection season 2 now that the Five Borough Killer has presumably taken the spotlight. Dexter may likely have been busy taking out Prater's society members one by one between seasons 1 and 2, including Al, the one that got away, better known as Rapunzel. Resurrection season 2 could very well open up with a montage of Dexter killing Al and the others before heading back to New York, as that would tie up those loose ends while leaving room for more unforeseen possibilities and conflicts down the road. There is also recent news that David Zayas will return in Dexter: Resurrection season 2 (via Deadline), which sparks the possibility that Angel is somehow still alive. That said, Angel is more likely to appear through Dexter's Dark Passenger, as Brian, his sister Deb, and his father Harry all have in the past, or in a vision similar to the one Dexter had at the beginning of the series that included the Trinity Killer and James Doakes. How much Dexter will focus on eliminating Prater's inner circle will be a crucial element in Dexter: Resurrection season 2, as the Five Borough Killer and the New York Ripper may become his top priorities.
