Devoleena Bhattacharjee in tears as mother stranded in Assam's devastating floods

Television actor Devoleena Bhattacharjee broke down in an emotional Instagram video while speaking about the devastating Assam floods and her family’s situation. The actor revealed that her mother is currently stranded in flood-hit Nazira, leaving her worried and helpless as the situation continues to worsen. Bhattacharjee also explained why she had remained silent about the floods until now, admitting that she knew she would struggle to control her emotions if she spoke about it earlier.In a video which she shared on her Instagram story earlier, the 40-year-old actor said, “I’m so sorry. This is the reason I haven’t been able to make a video. I knew I would break down.”Speaking about her connection to the flood affected regions, Bhattacharjee added, “Sivasagar and Nazira are where I grew up. I was born there, and my schooling and college were all there.”Speaking about her family’s situation, the Saath Nibhaana Saathiya actor revealed, “Sadly and unfortunately, my mother is still stuck in Nazira.” She added that, by God’s grace, their old house has not been completely flooded, saying, “Our old house is in an area that hasn’t been completely flooded.” However, the devastation around her has been severe. Devoleena shared that her grandmother’s and aunt’s houses have been completely submerged. “Everything is finished. Nothing is left,” she said, adding, “As you can see in the videos, there is absolutely nothing remaining.”Assam FloodsThe Assam government on Monday released the first tranche of interim relief of around Rs 75,000 per household to families affected by the floods, officials said. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma disbursed the assistance from Dibrugarh while continuing his tour of the worst-hit districts. The relief comes as the flood-related death toll in Upper Assam rose to 85 after three more deaths were reported from Sivasagar on Sunday.Meanwhile, the number of people affected by the floods has declined to 1,36,200, although Sivasagar continues to remain among the worst-hit districts in the current wave of flooding.Sarma is also scheduled to visit parts of Sivasagar to review relief and rehabilitation efforts and interact with affected residents.Floodwaters continue to impact Charaideo, Dhemaji, Golaghat, Jorhat and Sivasagar districts.- EndsPublished By: Prachi aryaPublished On: Aug 3, 2026 14:06 IST
