Devastating earthquake hits near Naples as cars crushed under falling rocks & power wiped out with 8 injured in tremors

AT LEAST eight people have been injured after a major earthquake struck southern Italy. Emergency crews scrambled to the scene after what authorities say was one of the strongest quakes to ever hit the Campi Flegrei region, near Naples. Boulders broke off cliffs and cascaded down into the streets of residential neighbourhoods, crushing parked cars on impact. Aftershocks continued to strike the area throughout the night. The Italian fire service said there were reports of minor damage to buildings in and around Naples. But their crews did not received immediate requests to help or rescue residents. Most read in The Sun Campi Flegrei is a densely populated volcanic caldera covering a large part of western Naples. The region has experienced increasingly frequent seismic activity in recent years, prompting the government to step up monitoring.
