Last night a source said: “Lucy took the news of the death calmly, but was clearly devastated by it. “She really went into her shell and was in her cell alone for hours afterwards. “An official went and told her about it after reading The Sun on Sunday. “They knew it’d be a trigger for her so were duty-bound to tell her and offer her any support they could. “But she took it really hard and the coincidence of the anniversaries made it all the more difficult.” A separate source said Letby — serving a whole life order for murdering seven babies and trying to kill seven others at the Countess of Chester Hospital — still hoped to get together with the doctor. But she called him “sweetie” in messages and broke down in tears when he entered the dock. At the Thirlwall Inquiry in 2024, the doctor said he had been tricked into giving her information about babies she had attacked.
