Derek Hough Speaks Out Against ‘Dancing With the Stars’ Judges’ Save

Every single season on Dancing With the Stars, we reach the inevitable point when a fan favorite is sent home and everyone storms social media to scream “BRING BACK THE JUDGES SAVE.” But it looks like we’re not going to get our wish—at least if Derek Hough has anything to do with it.Speaking to Extra, the former pro and current judge said, “By the way, can I just say something right now? I'm so glad we don't have that anymore. I'm so glad we don't have that.”He added, “You know why I don't want it? I'll tell you why, because, one, things happen and it's shocking and you're like, ‘Oh my gosh, I can't believe they went home.’ It's a shocking moment and it's surprising. Also, I'm good. I don't want that responsibility. I don't wanna be the one to be like, 'Sorry, bro, you're going home.' I'm good. That's up to you guys at home.”Guest judge Shirley Ballas, meanwhile, said the Judges’ Save works well over on Strictly Come Dancing in the UK. “I think it's good that the audience choose,” she explained. “They put two in the bottom. That was their choice. And then, at the end of the day, we get to save the dancer that we think is the best. Because sometimes, on your kind of show... they could send all the good dancers home. And then, you know, you're left with a different final. So it's important that there's something for everybody.”The Judges’ Save was in effect on DWTS from season 28 to season 32. The show got rid of it after deciding it was diminishing fan votes at home. “I think it should be about America,” executive producer Deena Katz told TV Line. “And at the end of the day, the judges' save sometimes isn't what America wanted. And [eliminations are based on] half the judges and half America voting, and so that's kind of the reason we did it.”
