Democrat ripped over jaw-dropping Thanksgiving take: ‘You’re losing’

HuhFrancesca Hong, a democratic socialist leading Wisconsin’s Democratic primary field for governor, is facing even more ridicule over a deleted social media post.Hong has faced conservative backlash in recent days after a previous X post calling for Thanksgiving to be canceled resurfaced online.“Cancel Thanksgiving,“ Hong wrote in November 2020. “Should have done this in 1621.”“If it takes a worldwide pandemic for us to realize we should stop celebrating colonialism and the original superspreader event that killed Indigenous folx and women, so be it,” she added.Amid the criticism, Hong was asked Monday during an interview on CNN’s “The Sourc”’ whether she still believes Thanksgiving should be scrapped as a holiday.Hong, a professional chef, recalled that one of the first meals she made for her community was a Thanksgiving meal at age 16.“I always think my hospitality background in owning a restaurant for seven, eight years, that bringing folks around the table to share conversation and build community is always a good thing,” Hong said. “But Thanksgiving is also a time that’s incredibly painful for many people in our communities.”“And so I think there, I wanted to make sure that people understood that there are multiple views, but views can evolve,” she continued. “And the position that I’m running for right now, and I think my background as a chef will actually help me become a better governor that’s able to bring more people to the table.”Her response was quickly met with scrutiny on social media.“This would get a standing ovation at the next Democrat national convention,” CNN conservative pundit Scott Jennings wrote on X.Adam Carlson, the founding partner of a polling firm, posted: “OH MY GOD JUST SAY ‘NO.’”One user said, “JUST SAY ‘NO, I DO NOT THINK THANKSGIVING SHOULD BE CANCELLED’ JFC THIS ISN’T DIFFICULT.”Another added that “if you’re doing politician-y answers to questions as simple” as whether Thanksgiving should exist, then “you’re losing.”A Marquette University Law School poll, released last week, found that Hong, who has represented Wisconsin’s 76th Assembly District since 2021, placed in first with 38% support among Democratic primary voters. Barnes followed with 16%, while Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley received 7%. Former Department of Administration Secretary Joel Brennan and state Sen.
