A delivery driver in Virginia was caught on camera tossing a package at a black cat sunbathing on its owner's front porch and then smirking after the cat ran off. Isabell Sump, Opie's owner, was furious after seeing footage of the incident on her Ring camera, as her adorable pet was maliciously hit with a package on Sunday afternoon. Opie was seen minding his business while lying on Sump's front porch in Virginia Beach when the unidentified delivery driver approached the front step with the package in hand. 'He's typically a very carefree cat,' Sump told 10 on Your Side. 'He doesn't bother anybody unless they give him a reason, and he wasn't doing anything.'As the GOFO worker got closer to the cat, he appeared to lunge forward and hurl the package directly toward Opie who had lifted his head before he was suddenly struck. 'He picked up his head and next thing you know, he's getting hit with a package,' Opie's owner added. As the package hit the cat, Opie jumped up and ran off while the delivery driver seemed to smirk before taking two photos of the front of the home, believed to be proof of delivery. 'He had taken an underhand throw and reared it back at him… and then took a step back, took a picture of the package and then took a secondary picture, which we’re trying to find, maybe on his personal device,' Sump told the outlet. 'I was mad and I was seriously baffled, but not too surprised because it's Halloween. He is a black cat. People think that they are mean. Some of them are. He's not that mean,' she continued.Sump said she was attempting to open an investigation into the incident and plans to file charges against the driver once he is identified. GOFO told the cat owner they were investigating the incident, but she said: 'They just keep telling me that they opened an investigation and that they’re investigating it and that they’re so sorry for what happened.''I told them that I am going to be pressing criminal charges when I find out who this is, because one, he doesn’t need to be throwing packages [at] Opie, and he does not need to be throwing packages at animals, because what if this is just the first time he was caught on video?'The video was shared online and garnered fury across social media, with Sump noting that the time of year is particularly concerning. 'We knew it was going to get some attention, but we didn’t think it was going to get the attention it did, and we’re glad it did, because black cats this time of year get picked on a lot,' she said. Sump continued on to say that the driver had plenty of options in dealing with the situation, particularly if he was uncomfortable with the cat. As the package hit the cat, Opie jumped up and ran off while the delivery driver seemed to smirk before taking two photos of the front of the home, believed to be proof of delivery'Like, why did you do that? He didn’t do anything to you. If you were scared of him, you could have left the package in the yard, and we would come get it. 'There’s no need to harm the animals. They didn’t do nothing to you. Even if a dog’s coming at you or a cat’s coming at you, you can get in the vehicle to get away,' she added. 'Come say you're sorry.'However, as 13 News Now interviewed Opie's family, a delivery driver approached the home and spoke through a translator app.'I'm the guy who came to deliver the package,' he said through the app, the outlet reported. The driver said following online backlash, he felt the need to return and apologize. 'So what I came to do was to apologize to the person, to show my face because I'm telling you I'm not someone who likes trouble, let alone cats,' he said. The owner, however, spun around and said: 'You had no right to hurt my animal. You should not be throwing packages in general, let alone at an animal.'Police and animal control were subsequently called to the home and Sump demanded the driver's information. No arrests occurred, according to the outlet. The Daily Mail reached out to GOFO for comment.
