Delhi power bills to rise as regulator clears extra June surcharge

The Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission now revises the surcharge on a monthly basis.In separate representations, BRPL, BYPL and TPDDL sought relaxation, saying the actual power purchase cost for June had increased "significantly" compared with the approved base power purchase cost. The discoms sought FPPAS for June at 31.64 per cent, 24.02 per cent and 23.71 per cent, respectively.In its August 10 order, the Commission said the discoms would be allowed to recover an additional surcharge of 7.94 per cent for BRPL, 7.43 per cent for BYPL and 8.50 per cent for TPDDL for June. Accordingly, the total FPPAS allowed to be recovered is 17.94 per cent for BRPL, 17.43 per cent for BYPL and 18.50 per cent for TPDDL, the order said. It added that the additional FPPAS had been allowed to enable the discoms to recover at least a reasonable part of the increase in power purchase cost.FPPAS is determined by regulatory commissions to pass changes in fuel and power procurement costs to consumers.
