Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds are also likely. A red alert covers all 11 districts of the national capital -- Central Delhi, East Delhi, New Delhi, North Delhi, North East Delhi, North West Delhi, Shahdara, South Delhi, South East Delhi, South West Delhi and West Delhi. The IMD has also warned of moderate rain at many places, with heavy to extremely heavy rainfall possible at isolated locations. The weather conditions come a day after intense showers brought several parts of Delhi-NCR to a standstill. Heavy rain on Monday Gurugram has been particularly affected, with severe waterlogging and traffic congestion. The administration advised corporate offices, government and private schools and other institutions to allow work from home on Tuesday, while schools were advised to shift to online classes. Till August 24, Safdarjung recorded 246.2 mm against the normal 191.1 mm, an excess of 29%, while Palam recorded 227.2 mm, 28% above normal. Lodi Road received 233.2 mm, 22% above normal, Ridge recorded 243 mm, 50% above normal, and Ayanagar received 266.3 mm, 66% above normal. While Delhi is under a red alert, the IMD's subdivision-level warning separately lists Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi under a heavy-rain warning for August 25.
