In an order issued on July 30, the government said that it would not take any adverse action against the individuals involved in the protest except those who already have a criminal background.The order further mentioned that the Delhi Police registered 13 cases till July 29. However, the government is not willing to enforce any legal measure against the people associated with the protest. “The matter shall be treated as closed without any future proceedings on this account,” the order read.Assuring the protestors further, the government also said it would expedite the review of arrests and facilitate the release of those who have already been arrested.However, the administration has made it clear that the order is not extended to people who already share a criminal background. In line with the Supreme Court’s directives, the government said that the verification process would be extended to persons having criminal antecedents. FIRS AGAINST PROTESTORS WITHDRAWN IN MULTIPLE STATESThe decision by the Delhi government came nearly two days after the NDA government in Bihar announced to drop all the cases against protestors who took part in the agitation over the NEET paper leak row.The Samrat Choudhary-led NDA government announced that it would not take any legal or retaliatory action against the protesting students. The decision came amid pressure from several opposition parties in the state. In addition to Bihar, Assam also withdrew five cases that were registered against the protestors. The government said that it would not initiate any legal action against the protestors.On Tuesday, West Bengal also withdrew a suo motu FIR against protestors who took part in a rally that was called in support of the CJP and the nationwide students’ protests in the city’s Esplanade area.CJP HAD SET A DEADLINE FOR GOVERNMENT TO WITHDRAW PROTESTSThe withdrawal of FIRs against protestors in multiple states occurred amid the CJP leadership's warning of 'taking necessary steps' if the demands of the party are not met. As the news of the protestors being detained in multiple states came to light a few days ago, the CJP urged the centre to honour its assurance of not taking any punitive or legal action against the peaceful protestors. It also asked the Centre to withdraw all the cases against the protestors and release the detainees by July 28.
