Delhi cops say no permission for CJP stir tomorrow, asks Metro to shut 57 stations

Delhi Police has denied permission to the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) to hold a protest at Jantar Mantar on Saturday over the SIR controversy, saying the outfit failed to apply within the stipulated timeframe.In the wake of the CJP’s planned protest demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, the police have also asked the Delhi Metro to shut at least 57 stations with routes that connect to Central Delhi.Police Commissioner Nupur Prasad said CJP’s Saurav Das submitted an application on Wednesday, whereas the current guidelines require permission to be sought at least 10 days in advance.She said permission had not been granted for Saturday’s protest. Prasad also said the CJP had failed to follow protest guidelines in the past and warned that legal action would be taken if the rules were violated.- Ends
