The building, that was being run as a paying guest (PG) accommodation, had been housing students enrolled in the University of Delhi’s south campus. Locals said the building, which comprises a basement plus five more floors, was at least 50-years-old. Repair work was underway in the basement when the incident occurred, police officials said.The incident has thrown a spotlight on the safety of students living in PG accommodations and the acute shortage of hostel facilities for outstation students in Delhi.
