The two are now second-year B Com students at Motilal Nehru College. While Krish lives with his family in Ghaziabad, Abhishek was staying in a PG in Satya Niketan for the past two years.Abhishek was rescued from the debris and brought to the AIIMS Trauma Centre. A friend who managed to see him inside told Krish that his condition was critical.“I couldn’t even recognise him at first,” he said.The two friends studied together in Varanasi before moving to Delhi for college. Krish said he had visited Abhishek’s PG during examinations and had been struck by its cramped and poor conditions.“There was no water in the washrooms and the place was extremely congested. I couldn’t even stay for one night. I don’t know how he managed to stay there for two years,” he said.Doctors were preparing to conduct a CT scan on Abhishek, while his parents began their journey from Varanasi to Delhi after learning of the collapse.A similar wait unfolded for Jasraj, the uncle of Anuroodh, another student from Uttar Pradesh, who was injured in the collapse. He rushed to the hospital after receiving a call from the student’s mother and waited outside the trauma centre for updates.“I received a call from the child’s mother in Uttar Pradesh and came here to check on him. I have only been able to see him once, but we are just relieved that he is stable,” Jasraj said.“There are at least 10-12 other injured students in the ward. We are not being allowed to go inside again now,” he added.With access to the ward restricted, relatives and friends gathered outside, repeatedly checking their phones and waiting for brief updates about the students being treated inside. For many, waiting was all they could do as doctors assessed the injuries of those pulled out of the rubble.Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta also visited the AIIMS Trauma Centre on Sunday (September 6, 2026) to take stock of the treatment being provided to those injured in the Satya Niketan building collapse.
