According to Instagram user Kaushiki Dhyani, her iPhone, along with the phones of her friend's brother, Saksham Negi, and several others, were stolen from Clement Town on September 12.Kaushiki Dhyani said she shared with police the screenshots of her conversation with the thief but no action was taken.Dehradun,Oct 7, 2026 16:59 ISTA theft complaint in Dehradun has taken an unusual turn after a woman alleged that the person who stole her iPhone later contacted her and demanded the device’s password. Kaushiki Dhyani, who has raised the issue through a reel on her Instagram handle, Kaushiki_28, has also questioned the alleged lack of police action despite a series of thefts reported from the same area.According to Kaushiki, her iPhone, along with the phones of her friend’s brother, Saksham Negi, and several others, were stolen from Clement Town on September 12.She claimed that laptops, MacBooks, mobile phones and other valuables worth lakhs of rupees were also stolen from residents in the area. However, she alleged that complaints were not taken seriously and, in some cases, applications were not even accepted. The situation, she said, became even more alarming when the alleged thief contacted her after the phone was stolen. Kaushiki claimed that a contact number remained visible on the device, allowing the person in possession of the phone to reach out to her. She said she subsequently received SMS and WhatsApp messages seeking the password to her iPhone. The alleged contact has raised questions over the sequence of events: while the victims say they have struggled to get their complaints registered, the person allegedly possessing the stolen phone was able to reach the affected person directly. Kaushiki also alleged that the thefts were not limited to her flat. Speaking to India Today, she said, “5-6 mobile phones and laptops were stolen from the same building.” She further claimed that the same group targeted nearby PGs and hostels on the same day.According to her account, the thefts took place between 4 am and 8 am, with her flat allegedly being the final target. She said the incidents continued even after the initial thefts, with 16 more thefts reported in the same area.Kaushiki also described her experience while attempting to approach the police. She alleged that when they went to the police station to report the theft, they were told that no one was available and were asked to return later. She has further alleged that the accused no longer fear police action. "The thieves no longer fear the police, knowing that the Uttarakhand Police cannot harm them or catch them," she said in her social media account.GOODS WORTH LAKHS STOLENAnother Instagram video by one Amandeep Negi has highlighted a similar incident. It refers to a theft reported by Kushagra Jaiswal, in which goods worth lakhs of rupees were allegedly stolen from Clement Town Lane No. 9A around 6 am on September 16.The police, meanwhile, have disputed the suggestion that the matter was ignored. SP (City) Shekhar Suyal said, “It was not the case that the police had failed to take cognisance of the issue,” and added that the Circle Officer was investigating the case. However, the police did not respond to questions concerning the other thefts allegedly reported between September 12 and 16.The case now presents a troubling contrast for the victims: while they allege repeated thefts and difficulties in getting their complaints registered, the person allegedly holding a stolen phone was able to contact its owner. With the Circle Officer investigating, the next crucial step will be to establish whether the thefts are linked, trace the suspects and determine whether the allegations of police inaction are borne out by the investigation.- Ends
