Dead Rising Turns 20 Years Old Today, And I’m Praying Its Anniversary Message Is A New Game Tease Published Aug 8, 2026, 1:49 PM EDT George is the Lead News Editor for TheGamer, and has been working in the industry since 2021 after graduating from the University of South Wales with a bachelor's degree in Journalism. He has also previously written for RPG Site, WhatCulture, and PlayStation Lifestyle. George is an expert on platformers, action games, and fighters, but tends to play as many releases as possible. This hands-on experience lets him dive into gaming communities and follow the latest trends. Some of the games George has extensively covered first-hand include Dead Rising, Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero, Assassin's Creed Shadows, and Ninja Gaiden 4. Dead Rising is celebrating its 20th anniversary today and, while Capcom US has been noticeably quiet, the official series account has shared a message that I hope is a tease for the future. On this day 20 years ago, Capcom decided that giving us just one amazing zombie franchise wasn’t enough and introduced both Dead Rising and Frank West to the world. The original Dead Rising is one of my favourite games of all time, so you can imagine how ancient I feel right now knowing that it’s been two whole decades since it debuted. As we know from this year’s Resident Evil 30th anniversary celebration, Capcom is usually very on top of celebrating these milestones for its biggest gaming franchises. Sadly, that’s not quite the case today, as there’s just one official account highlighting the news, albeit in a way that could be taken as a tease if you let your copium guide you. Dead Rising Account Asks Fans To Keep Enjoying “From Here On Out” It Could Mean Nothing, But A New Project Is Rumoured Since realising what a big day August 8 is, I’ve been keeping a close eye on Capcom’s social media accounts to see if any of them shared a message to highlight the occasion. As of the time of writing, both the Capcom US account and the Capcom Japan page haven’t posted anything for Frank’s big day, which is especially noticeable for Capcom Japan since it’s now August 9 in that timezone. Don’t fret too much, though, as it’s not just fans celebrating Dead Rising’s 20th anniversary after all. The official Japanese Twitter account for Dead Rising shared a brief message for fans to mark the date, thanking everyone who “moved down psychopaths with every kind of weapon” and “survived while surrounded by hordes of zombies”. The anniversary message concludes by asking fans to “keep blasting zombies to your heart’s content from here on out too”. This could just be a simple way of saying to keep on enjoying the series but, as someone desperate to see something new, there’s a part of me that’s taking “from here on out” as a tease for more to come after 2024’s Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster. That might sound like copium (and it is), but it has been previously reported that a new Dead Rising starring Frank West is in development, and Capcom did seem keen on a Deluxe Remaster of Dead Rising 2 if fans wanted it. Whatever the case, today is a day for celebrating 20 years of zombie slaying, survivor saving, and rocking out to Gone Guru.
