Dead By Daylight Issues Apology Amid TheBurntPeanut Free Content Backlash

Dead By Daylight Fans In Uproar After A Rogue Dev Gifted All Of Its Content To One Streamer Behavior Interactive Published Nov 2, 2026, 4:49 AM EST Josh Coulson is an editor at TheGamer covering breaking news on everything from colorful platformers to the latest Lego sets. Primarily a news writer since 2018, Josh has covered just about every major game from the past decade. Now an editor, their focus has shifted to being the leading affiliate expert at the site, building relationships between TheGamer and global brands including Mattel, Funko, and The Pokemon Company. Dead by Daylight has found itself mired in controversy over the actions of what seems to be a solitary rogue developer during an otherwise innocuous livestream. TheBurntPeanut was gifted all of the game’s paid content for free, and the community's response, along with the developer's reaction, has ranged from mildly upset to ditching the game entirely. Dead By Daylight Dev Gives TheBurntPeanut All Of Its Content For Free This all started when TheBurntPeanut noted live on stream that all of Dead By Daylight’s content had suddenly been unlocked. When they noticed and remarked on it, a developer, presumably the one who unlocked all of the content, replied, “WE CAN TAKE THE HEAT! THEY ARE YOURS TO KEEP”. It was that response that riled up an already upset fanbase, watching as a streamer who doesn’t need to be gifted content for free, let alone that much of it, since it felt like the act was being rubbed in their face in real time. Also, it seems that whoever it was that made this happen can’t take the heat after all, as Dead by Daylight studio Behavior Interactive has now addressed the situation and apologized. “Although it is not unusual to unlock content to give creators discovering DbD a chance to have a sneak peek at available content, this decision was made without receiving appropriate approvals,” a statement shared via the DbD Pulse account reads. “Furthermore, the team member's subsequent comments and conduct do not align with Dead by Daylight’s core values.” “When concerns about this decision became apparent during the stream, we should have responded by looking into these concerns, not dismissing them,” the statement continues. It does then address some of the backlash being lobbied towards the studio’s team members, as evidently some have taken things too far and levied threats against Behavior developers in response to what happened. The Damage May Have Already Been Done Unfortunately, the apology doesn’t seem to be enough for some, if not most, players, largely due to the fact that Behavior has shared it on its DbD Pulse account rather than its main Dead by Daylight one. The game’s main account has 1.3 million followers, while its Pulse account has a tiny fraction of that number with just 22,300, seriously limiting the apology’s potential reach. Posts in which players are claiming they’ve uninstalled the game have gained almost as much traction as the apology itself. Some have pointed to allegations made against the streamer in the past as their reason for leaving, while others have highlighted how telling it is that the far smaller account was used for the apology. One player claiming to have quit Dead by Daylight highlights that their own account has more followers. Behavior’s next steps remain unclear, although giving the statement a share on Dead by Daylight’s main account might be a good start.
