The DC Universe is still expanding as 2026 gets closer to its end. Throughout the year, the DCU's Chapter 1: "Gods and Monsters" has seen Milly Alcock's Supergirl and HBO's Lanterns expand James Gunn's superhero franchise, while also getting ready to explore the world of Gotham City in the new Clayface film this month. As the fall season gets underway, DC Studios is already working hard on its 2027 projects. In a new interview with IGN, DC Studios co-CEO Peter Safran spoke briefly about the progress on Gunn's Man of Tomorrow, which wrapped principal photography in August. The executive was asked when he thinks "the marketing push and reveals" will start to happen for the 2027 installment, as many have been wondering about when the first trailer is expected. Safran stated, "I think it's early days, it's early days. That's something that we'll determine in the coming month." The upcoming DCU movie will be one of the first DC titles to come out under the new Skydance merger, as Warner Bros. Discovery and Paramount are officially going through with the combination. In the same chat with IGN, Safran was asked if David Ellison had mentioned if DC Studios will face any major changes in how to market their upcoming projects. But according to Safran, things will remain mostly the same, at least for now. He told the outlet, "No, not yet. But, remember, the whole thing's a week old, it was literally last Tuesday." Safran continued after IGN brought up how the Warner Bros. WaterTower had just been repainted, saying, "Yeah, it's early days. But it's a coming home for us with [theatrical marketing and distribution executive] Josh Goldstine though to have him back involved in our movies as head of marketing and distribution and he's terrific, super smart and we've got a great relationship with him. So, I think that everything's to be discussed as we move forward. But, listen, they're already jumping in on Clayface, everybody's excited about that release and so it's great to be able to talk to Josh again about our business." Gunn is currently writing his next project, but when it comes to directing, the former MCU filmmaker has not decided what he will helm next, according to Safran. The co-CEO stressed, "He really loves what he does. There was that time where he was writing the full season of Creature Commandos and writing and directing Peacemaker Season Two and prepping the first Superman movie. So, he's got a never-ending enthusiasm and excitement for what we're building so I wouldn't expect him to take too much time in between Man of Tomorrow and whatever he does next." As Gunn's Man of Tomorrow will see David Corenswet's Superman and Nicholas Hoult's Lex Luthor team up against Brainiac, the continuation of the first film will also see various DCU heroes return. After his introduction in the HBO drama, Aaron Pierre will reprise his role as John Stewart, a.k.a. Green Lantern. He won't be the only Emerald Knight in the Superman sequel, as Nathan Fillion is suiting up once more as Guy Gardner. New cast members include Adrja Arjona, Matthew Lillard, and Sinqua Walls, as they have been tapped for mystery roles. Man of Tomorrow opens in theaters on July 9, 2027.
