The DC Universe has a new project on the way that will serve as its Snyderverse replacement in one key way. Zack Snyder's DC movies and overall vision for the franchise shaped what would become known as the DCEU movie franchise. The Snyderverse featured stars like Henry Cavill as Superman, Ben Affleck as Batman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, and more. However, gone are the days of the Snyderverse. Cavill was replaced as Superman as soon as James Gunn's DCU began, with Batman, Wonder Woman, and many other DC heroes and villains set to be recast for the new franchise. That has also included DCEU Aquaman star Jason Momoa leaving that role behind to join the DCU as a new character, Lobo, appearing in the Supergirl movie. Snyder had many plans for his version of the DC franchise that will seemingly never come to fruition. They were first impacted by the old DC regime removing Snyder from 2017's Justice League and having The Avengers director Joss Whedon helm long reshoots that reshaped the team-up movie. With the DCEU dead, Snyder's planned Justice League sequels are no longer coming. While it seems like there might be no hope left for new Snyderverse projects, Gunn's DCU has an upcoming series that could come as a replacement for some of Snyder's ideas. That would be the adult-animated Mister Miracle series, which features DC Comics writer Tom King as its showrunner, adapting his own run with the character. Mister Miracle is the Snyderverse's replacement in one way. The DCU Mister Miracle Series Replaces The Snyderverse's Darkseid & New Gods Plans Snyder had big plans for Darkseid and the New Gods in the old DCEU. Fans were able to see that in both the theatrical cut of Justice League and 2021's Zack Snyder's Justice League. In the latter, New Gods characters like Darkseid, Steppenwolf, DeSaad, and Granny Goodness showed up. In King's Mister Miracle series, at least Granny Goodness and Darkseid should play substantial roles, following their impact on the source material that is being adapted for the small screen. In any case, there is no denying that Snyder's big plans for the New Gods are being replaced by the DCU show. Mister Miracle focuses on Scott Free, who may be the biological son of Highfather, the ruler of New Genesis, but was raised as the adoptive son of Apokolips' ruler, Darkseid. The upcoming DCU animated series will explore all the trauma that came with Scott's upbringing at Apocalips, having to deal with the likes of Darkseid and Granny Goodness all his life while trying to rise above all the nastiness he saw. Mister Miracle brings more nuance and complexity to the New Gods and Darkseid than what was shown in Zack Snyder's Justice League and the DCEU movie's theatrical cut. Choose the movie with the higher Rotten Tomatoes score. After all, this is a show fully about the New Gods' lore, with a main character who is not just about fighting Darkseid, but is actually the villain's adoptive son. The Mister Miracle comics penned by King range from universe-ending threats, such as Darkseid coming into possession of the Anti-Life Equation, to mundane moments, like Darkseid impatiently eating a veggie tray. Sure, Darkseid was physically imposing and was set up to be a frightening threat in future movies when he appeared in Zack Snyder's Justice League. However, the DCU's Mister Miracle series will put the New Gods in the spotlight in a different way, with a bigger focus on fleshing out characters' personalities and connections. This seems like a more exciting approach in the long run, given that the DCU Chapter One is only a couple of years in, and Darkseid and the New Gods are already getting solid development based on the excellent work King did with the comics the series adapts. Adding to that, Josh Hutcherson will voice Mister Miracle, while Mackenzie Davis is Big Bard. Those are pitch-perfect casting choices for the DC project that replaces the Snyderverse's Darkseid plans.
