DC Officially Confirms Supergirl’s Design For Superman's Next Appearance

On TV, the Arrowverse's many shows spotlighted a single Supergirl. That would be Melissa Benoist's Supergirl, who led her DC solo series for six seasons before calling it quits in 2021. Throughout her time as the Girl of Steel, Benoist came to wear several exciting variations of the Supergirl suit. Some were pulled straight from the comics, while others were original designs. Now, James Gunn's DC Universe has its own Supergirl. Milly Alcock debuted as Supergirl in 2025's Superman movie. There she had a modern design, which combined the traditional skirt with a more armored look. Then, Alcock' returned for 2026's Supergirl movie, which gave her a sleeker look. Before she appears in 2027's Man of Tomorrow, another version of Supergirl inspired by the DCU has risen in Krypto Saves the Day! Season 2. DC Has Revealed What Krypto Saves The Day! Season 2's Supergirl Looks Like After only showing up in a cameo role in the Krypto Saves the Day! Season 1 finale, much like her appearance in Gunn's Superman movie, Supergirl plays a much bigger role in season 2 of the animated DC series. Prior to Krypto Saves the Day! Season 2's debut on HBO Max on September 10, the first trailer for the new season of the Superman spin-off series — which is clearly inspired by the DCU movies and characters, but not canon to the franchise — teased how Kara would play a major role this time around. She was seen both with Krypto and flying around with Superman. Now that the first episode of Krypto Saves the Day! Season 2 is out, DC fans have gotten a good look at Supergirl's new costume at DC Studios in action. Supergirl's suit in the Superman animated series includes red knee-high leather boots with yellow accents, the traditional red skirt with a yellow belt that looks Kryptonian-like/more armored than a simple design, a long-sleeve blue shirt, and a small red cape that only stretches a little bit further down than her waist. Finally, the House of El "S" crest is small and is tailored after a recent redesign fans know well. How Krypto Saves The Day! Season 2's Supergirl Compares To Other Versions Of The DC Character? Given how Krypto Saves the Day! Season 2's Supergirl is directly inspired by Alcock's version of the DC character from her 2026 movie, with the plot of episode 1 being plucked from the space bus ride that Kara and Ruthye go on in Alcock's Supergirl film, down to a Lobo who looks like Jason Momoa's appearing, the new take on the character has to be compared to the DCU version. In that regard, Krypto Saves the Day! Season 2's Supergirl boasts the same "S" symbol on her chest seen in Alcock's Girl of Steel, which is in turn inspired by the Kingdom Come comics. However, the House of El crest is bigger in the live-action DC movie. As far as the belt goes, they are pretty similar in their respective art styles, though Alcock's looks more metallic, with the same going for the yellow accents on the red knee-high leather boots. The skirts look the same. The biggest difference between both Supergirl designs comes down to the long-sleeve blue shirt, which goes for the classic comic book look with smooth blue and no lines, rather than the more modern textured look filled with lines of the Supergirl movie.
