David Moyes admits he’s NEVER spoken to Everton owner and gives update on future after disastrous transfer deadline day

DAVID MOYES has revealed he has never spoken to Everton owner Dan Friedkin but insists he will not quit the club. The Toffees boss is approaching the final year of his contract after a chaotic summer transfer window left him with a depleted squad. There have been reports claiming Moyes could consider quitting after Everton‘s disappointing deadline-day business, with the club left with just 21 senior outfield players. Moyes has now broken his silence on his relationship with Friedkin, revealing the pair have never spoken directly despite the American businessman completing his takeover of the club in December 2024. Friedkin, who also owns Serie A side Roma, has yet to attend an Everton game and leaves the day-to-day running of the club to his son-in-law Rishi Majithia. Moyes’ main point of contact is chief executive Angus Kinnear, with the manager also communicating with Majithia rather than Friedkin himself. Asked whether he had spoken to Friedkin during his 20 months back at Everton, Moyes simply replied: “No.” He told TNT SPORTS: “My real contact is Angus [Kinnear, chief executive]. Rishi is the next one and then the head of the Friedkin family in America.” The transfer window has only intensified scrutiny on Everton with five players leaving towards the end of the window, Iliman Ndiaye, Beto, Tim Iroegbunam, Nathan Patterson and Adam Aznou, who joined Malaga on loan. A proposed £40million move for Harrison Armstrong to Nottingham Forest was also abandoned following a furious reaction from supporters. Everton did manage to strengthen on deadline day, bringing Jack Grealish in on loan from Manchester City and signing Ainsley Maitland-Niles from Lyon. Despite the difficult circumstances, Moyes has emphatically dismissed suggestions that he could walk away from Everton. He said: “It’s never going to be easy. “You know what happens in these situations, there’s only one person who tends to get called out at the end [the manager].” Asked why he continues to put himself through the pressure, Moyes made his feelings for the club crystal clear. The former West Ham manager said: “Everton’s different. “I wouldn’t have come back for anybody but Everton. I think the club here has had enough days when the people find a way of recovering.” Moyes also called on Everton supporters to get behind his depleted squad, insisting their backing could prove crucial as they attempt to navigate the difficult period. He said: “What we’re going to need from them is extra because we’re short. So we need them. If they’re not with us, then it’s terrible. And they are with us, I believe they are with us.” Comment now
