David Byrne has shared a new playlist dedicated to Argentina’s emerging generation of musicians, featuring music from Milo J, Cazzu, Broke Carrey, Feli Colina, and Los Alonsitos, among others. Titled David Byrne Radio Presents: Argentina, La Nueva Generación, the 95-minute selection is the latest installment of the former Talking Heads frontman’s David Byrne Radio series, which previously spotlighted Mexican artists in September. Other artists featured on the playlist include Trueno, Duratierra, and Soledad. In an accompanying statement, Byrne described a new movement among younger Argentine musicians incorporating traditional instruments and rhythms into contemporary music. “These are not folkies, these are rappers, punk rockers and electronic artists,” he wrote, suggesting that the trend reflects a growing pride in Argentina’s musical heritage. Byrne drew parallels with Bad Bunny and Peso Pluma, who have similarly brought regional sounds into contemporary popular music. “It’s a moment!” he declared. He also noted that this renewed embrace of national musical traditions shouldn’t be confused with political nationalism. According to Byrne, many of these artists are proud of their Argentine identity while remaining critical of President Javier Milei: “Many of these Argentine artists are proud of their culture but at the same time very critical of president Milei- (the pal of Trump and Musk).” Listen to Byrne’s Argentina, La Nueva Generación playlist below.
