David Beckham and Gary Neville funding major Salford stadium revamp as Paul Scholes reveals plan for 12k-capacity ground

SALFORD owners David Beckham and Gary Neville are funding a revamp of the club’s stadium amid a raft of changes at the League Two club. According to the Athletic, the duo are set to overhaul their Moor Lane stadium, which is now known as the AIG Stadium, to ensure Salford remain competitive. The ground currently has a capacity of 5,108 but Scholes says the dream is for Salford to reach 12,000. He told the outlet: “Salford has a community of 300,000 people. We just need three per cent of our city coming to Salford week in, week out and you get 10,000 attendees. “When we talk around the reality of maybe one day being like a Bournemouth, we live in a community in the part of the world where we have all of the tools at our disposal.” Scholes adds: “I felt that growth coming last year. Can we get to a 12,000-seater stadium and fill it? That’s the dream. But it’s a long way to go.” Salford are also renovating their Littleton Road training ground, owned by Scholes’ old club Manchester United. The major changes aligns with their total rebrand as a club, which has also seen Beckham and Neville change the kit colours from red to their original orange. And a new club crest has also been created featuring a lion facing forwards inside a ring and a rose. The ring represents the gas works in the city, while the rose is a reference to Salford Lads Club. It’s not just the facilities that are getting an upgrade at Salford. The club have swapped out their manager after sacking Karl Robinson following the 3-0 defeat in the play-off final this summer. Salford have since brought in Australian Peter Cklamovski, who previously managed the Malaysia national team and once worked under Ange Postecoglou. Comment now
