The awards were announced by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC), Government of India, on the occasion of Swachh Vayu Diwas 2026. | Image for representation | Photo Credit: Liudmila Chernetska Davangere city has secured two State-level awards under the Swachh Ward Vayu Survekshan 2025 assessment for 2025-26, for its efforts towards improving air quality, sanitation and environmental awareness.The awards were announced by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC), Government of India, on the occasion of Swachh Vayu Diwas 2026, a release from the Davangere Municipal Corporation said.Davangere, identified as a National Clean Air Programme (NCAP) non-attainment city, secured top positions in two population categories. SS Badavane-B Block was recognised in Population Category 2, while DCM Township secured the top position in Population Category 3.The city has also been awarded a cash prize of ₹25 lakh.The awards acknowledge the efforts of the Davangere City Corporation, residents, local representatives and other stakeholders in implementing measures aimed at controlling air pollution and improving sanitation and environmental conditions, the release said.The recognition is expected to encourage the civic body and residents to intensify measures for improving air quality and strengthening environmental management in the city.The municipal corporation has expressed its gratitude to its officials, elected representatives and citizens for their cooperation and contribution towards the achievement, and reiterated its commitment to further improving air quality in Davangere.
