Darian Mensah sets ACC record for most consecutive pass completions in a game

Miami quarterback Darian Mensah opened Saturday night’s game against Wake Forest by completing 24 of his first 24 passes, setting a new ACC record. The record was previously held by former Virginia QB Michael Rocco (2012), former North Carolina QB Mitch Trubisky (2016) and former Clemson QB Trevor Lawrence (2019). They all completed their first 18 passes. Superstar sophomore receiver Malachi Toney accounted for 11 of those receptions, totaling 113 yards and one touchdown as part of the hot start. Toney, who led the nation in receptions last season, looks well on his way to being so once again this year. “There is always room for improvement,” Mensah said after his Miami debut against Stanford, in which he completed 27/30 passes for 401 yards and five touchdowns. “The biggest thing I noticed when watching the film was our communication, whether it involved protection, run blocking or routes. Over that span, the Hurricanes have compiled a 23-6 (12-4) record and advanced to the College Football Playoff National Championship Game last season. With Mensah at the helm this year, the sky appears to be the limit for the Hurricanes. This was made even more evident by Saturday night’s stellar performance.
