DANIEL Kinahan told a court he did not have time to arrange legal representation at his hearing tonight. The 49-year-old has appeared before the Special Criminal Court and Mr Justice Patrick McGrath. At the outset, the court heard that Kinahan did not have any legal representation. When Mr Justice McGrath said this to Kinahan, he stood up in the dock. He said: “Yes that is correct your honour, I didn’t have time to arrange anything.” He said he was isolated in Dubai and had hoped a family member would contact a legal rep, but it was not done. The Det Sgt later charged Kinahan in the court precincts, and replied he understood the charge. The registrar then read the charge to Kinahan, who confirmed his name. When the judge said to contact his lawyers and arrange representation. Kinahan said: “I understand everything, thank you your honour.” He was told a bail application could only be made through the High Court, to which Kinahan replied: “I think we know I won’t be getting bail but thanks for that.” He was remanded in custody until October 5.
