Published October 9, 2026 06:59 AM Bears running back D’Andre Swift fumbled four times in his first 33 games with the team, but he’s been a little less adept at holding onto the ball in the early stages of this season. Swift has fumbled twice, including one in the third quarter of last Sunday’s win over the Jets. Head coach Ben Johnson called it “egregious” because of the way Swift was holding the ball and Swift was benched in favor of Kyle Monangai for the rest of the game. Swift said there was no big conversation about the benching, but said he understands what happens when you turn the ball over and “I’ll take whatever comes with that.” Swift also vowed to make sure it won’t happen again in the future. “I know that’s not me,” Swift said, via Dan Wiederer of TheAthletic.com. “That’s not a part of my game. It hasn’t been. So I’m not about to make it one. That’s over with now.”The Bears haven’t revealed their running back plans for this Sunday’s game against the Packers, but injury could factor into it. Monangai has not practiced this week due to thumb and toe injuries, so Swift could get the chance to show he’s cleaned things up by default.
