‘Dandiya Dhamaka’ on September 19 for a cause

The Inner Wheel Club of Adyar is gearing up to celebrate two significant milestones this year — 40 years of community service and the 10th anniversary of Dandiya Dhamaka, its flagship annual fundraiser.Over the past four decades, the Club has undertaken many initiatives in education, women empowerment, environmental sustainability, elder care, renovation of school infrastructure, and support for the underprivileged. Its long-standing environmental efforts include the planting of over 50,000 saplings.A major focus over the last two years has been “Project Vision – Giving Little Eyes a Better Tomorrow.” Through Gurupriya Vision Research Foundation, the Club contributes towards laser surgery for premature infants affected by Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP), a preventable cause of childhood blindness. Each eye surgery costs approximately ₹10,000, and the Club has so far supported successful surgeries for over 60 babies, said a release.Supporting projects such as these is Dandiya Dhamaka, the Club’s annual fundraiser, which completes 10 years in 2026. What began as a fundraising initiative has grown into a much-awaited celebration exclusively for women, bringing together dance, music, shopping and festive cheer — all for a larger purpose. Proceeds from the fundraiser supports the Club’s charitable initiatives.This year’s Dandiya Dhamaka will be held on September 19, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at MGR Arangam, MGR Janaki College of Arts and Science, Adyar. The Club in Adyar was founded on September 16, 1986 with just 19 members.
