In a lengthy video posted on Instagram, the “heartbroken” star revealed she had undergone a uterine wash, as suggested by a fertility doctor, ahead of having another round of IVF. However, she revealed that after she had another test, following this procedure, it was revealed her microbiome had dropped from 98% to 0.43% – meaning she would have to wait at least another three months before having IVF again. According to medics, a balanced microbiome supports hormone regulation and creates an optimal environment for embryo implantation. The thought of having to wait even longer to try and conceive was all too much Alex. Revealing her frustration, and beginning to get emotional, the star tearfully said: “I’m mostly mad at myself for not questioning everything and for not asking a million questions and for not saying, ‘Oh, well, why do I need that?’ Like, I just didn’t know. And I’m so disappointed in myself. “And I think that that’s like why I’ve been upset for the past few days, because I’m like, I’ve let myself down. I will never let that happen again, obviously, but it has absolutely put a wrench in our plan.” It comes after Alex appeared on This Morning with her husband Paul in January to talk about their fertility journey. On the show, it was revealed that the skater is actually medically allergic to Paul. After struggling to conceive naturally and undergoing a failed round of IVF, the pair decided to look into other options to see if there were factors that were decreasing their chances of falling pregnant. Speaking to hosts Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard, Alex said: “We got an at-home medical blood testing kit from a company called Fertylisis. “They send you the tests in the mail and you give them a blood vial and so we went down to the Pharmacy and got our bloods drawn. “We sent them overseas to Greece and we found out that we have a genetic pre-disposition that makes me incompatible with Paul’s DNA – which is crazy.” Alex clarified her DNA would turn on Paul’s if they attempted to conceive leading to her being classed as “allergic” to her husband. What to do if you're struggling with fertility Seek professional medical advice Visit your GP: This is the first step to get an initial assessment for common causes of infertility. Consider both partners: Fertility problems can affect either partner, so both should be involved in the process. Know when to see a doctor sooner: You should see a GP sooner than the standard one-year mark if you are over 36, have known fertility issues, or have risk factors like irregular periods or endometriosis. Lifestyle changes for reproductive health Adopt healthy habits: Focus on a balanced diet with plenty of fruits and vegetables, moderate exercise, and good sleep to help with hormone balance and overall health. Reduce harmful habits: Stop smoking and vaping, as these are not good for fertility. Manage stress: High stress levels and high cortisol levels are not good for fertility. Consider stress management techniques or journaling to help cope with the emotional toll. Limit caffeine and alcohol: Reducing caffeine intake is recommended when trying to conceive. Get emotional support Talk to your partner: Be open and honest with each other about your feelings to build understanding and avoid resentment. Connect with a support system: Talk to trusted friends, family, or online communities to find support during this emotional time. Understand next steps Fertility tests: Your GP can arrange various tests to help identify the cause of your fertility problems. Specialist referral: If tests show an issue, you may be referred to a specialist. Treatment options: Treatment depends on the cause and may include medicines, surgical procedures, or assisted conception methods like IUI or IVF.
