Walsh evened the score in round two with a huge left hand that floored Denny – and a follow up hook right after almost dropped him again. The hometown favourite, 25, started to take charge of the bout from round three onwards, with his combination punching proving the difference. A thunderous right hook in round six got Denny’s attention and a nod of acknowledgement. But Walsh’s body shots and punches in bunches kept the fight in his favour, with one left to Denny’s midsection forcing him to smartly hold on in the eighth. Both fighters were docked a point – Walsh for holding and Denny for shots on the back of the head. Denny, 35, was left on shaky legs in the ninth when a body shot and follow up left hand rifled off his head. A right uppercut in the tenth and final round landed right on the button for Walsh – who was awarded the win with scorecards of 98-91 98-91 and 96-90.
