Dan Stevens Hopes Prime Video’s ‘RoboCop’ Series “Preserves” Elements Of “Extreme Violence & Also Satire”

Dan Stevens has been cast as the titular hero in Prime Video’s RoboCop series and is sharing what he would like the show to feature. In a new interview, Stevens opened up about what he’s looking forward to the most in the sci-fi series and hopes it “preserves” two particular elements from the original films. “Oh my god, I mean so many things,” Stevens told ComicBook about what has him excited about his new role. “That original is one of my favorite films of all time. For me and so many of my friends, it was such an iconic movie.” He continued, “I think maybe one of the first exposures to extreme violence and also satire. I think that’s what I’m most looking forward to, hopefully preserving those elements.” Watch on Deadline Stevens will take on the role of Alex Murphy and his cyborg alter ego in the show based on the MGM movie franchise. The eight-episode series, written by Peter Ocko, follows a giant tech conglomerate that persuades the city to place a powerful robot on its police force – a robot implanted with the consciousness of a beloved fallen officer, Alex Murphy (Stevens). Peter Weller originally played Alex Murphy in RoboCop (1987) and its sequel, RoboCop 2 (1990). Robert Burke took over the role for the third installment in 1993. A 2014 remake of the 1987 film had Joel Kinnaman play Officer Murphy.
