Dan Gilbert goes all out for Cavs fans with massive Pistons series gesture

The Cleveland Cavaliers entered Game 5 of their Eastern Conference semifinal clash against the Detroit Pistons having gone 0-5 on the road thus far in this year's playoffs. The good news was that they had homecourt advantage in the first round and won every single game at Rocket Arena. However, the bad news was that they needed to win one game on the road at the bare minimum to advance to the Eastern Conference Finals. That's exactly what the Cavs managed to pull off on Wednesday night, as they stole Game 5 from right underneath the Pistons' nose — storming back from a nine-point deficit in the final three minutes of the fourth quarter to force overtime and later on take a 117-113 victory.Perhaps it helped the Cavs that they had a lot of fans in the building at Little Caesars Arena for Game 5 after owner Dan Gilbert personally “put a couple hundred Cavs fans on buses, fed them, hosted them for a reception and got them tickets to the game”, as per Joe Vardon of The Athletic. This clearly turned the tide for the Cavs, as Donovan Mitchell noted after the game. Not only did this gesture land kindly with Mitchell, it helped the Cavs feel a bit more at ease on the road.Detroit isn't too far away from Cleveland anyway, and Gilbert didn't have to do what he did. Nevertheless, the Cavs owner is clearly invested in his team and in a series where every advantage could matter, this could have proved to be all the difference. Now, the series is headed back to Cleveland with the Cavs up 3-2. The crowd is going to be loud in Rocket Arena, and Gilbert also did himself plenty of favors by giving back to a team that's always shown up to support the squad. The Cleveland Cavaliers entered Game 5 of their Eastern Conference semifinal clash against the Detroit Pistons having gone 0-5 on the road thus far in this year's playoffs.
