The minimum fare, which was increased from ₹35 to ₹40 for the first 1.5 km on August 28, will remain unchanged. In a notification issued on October 1, the Member-Secretary of the RTA said the August 28 notification did not take into account the per-km fare of ₹20 already fixed by the Authority in its notification of November 23, 2022. As such, the ₹20 per-km fare was continued in the August 28 notification. The October 1 notification noted that representatives of autorickshaw drivers and owners had sought an increase in the minimum fare from ₹35 to ₹50 and the per-km fare to ₹30 owing to a steep rise in input costs, including fuel and spare parts. However, the RTA observed that such a hike could discourage the public from using autorickshaws as a mode of transport and push them towards alternative options. In such a scenario, autorickshaw operators themselves could be placed at a disadvantage.Revised fareAccordingly, the Authority fixed the minimum fare at ₹40 for the first 1.5 km and the per-km fare thereafter at ₹23 for carrying a maximum of three passengers. There will be no waiting charges for the first 10 minutes, while ₹5 may be charged for the next 15 minutes or part thereof. No luggage charges will apply for up to 20 kg, and ₹5 may be charged for the next 20 kg or part thereof. Autorickshaw drivers may charge one-and-a-half times the fare between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m., the RTA said. The RTA directed autorickshaw operators to compulsorily display the approved fare chart in their vehicles. They were also asked to recalibrate their fare meters and get them sealed at the earliest. The Authority said it would provide a comparative fare chart to operators’ unions, which in turn would distribute it to drivers for display in vehicles until the meters are recalibrated.Further revision of autorickshaw fares in DKMinimum fare: ₹40 for the first 1.5 kmPer-km fare: ₹23 (₹20 earlier), from November 1Waiting charge: Nil for the first 10 minutes; ₹5 for the next 15 minutes or part thereofLuggage charge: Nil up to 20 kg; ₹5 for the next 20 kg or part thereofOne-and-a-half fare: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Published - October 05, 2026 07:44 pm IST
