A hotly-anctipated feature could be coming to the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel Image: CD Prokekt Red Sign in to your Polygon.com account A good sequel builds on what came before while retaining what worked the first time around. So with Cyberpunk 2, the upcoming sequel to Cyberpunk 2077, CD Projekt Red will likely want to retain the open-world William Gibson-esque fun of its 2020 RPG while giving players something new. A new job listing from the developer reveals one way in which the sequel could liven things up, and fans are sure to be excited. CD Projekt Red is currently looking to hire more developers for work on Cyberpunk 2. One job listing (as spotted by Cheat Happens) suggests the sequel will have a multiplayer component. In the listing's "Nice to Have" section, one bullet point reads, "Understanding of multiplayer network architecture and client-server synchronization for game state/quests." While that mostly reads like a lot of tech speak, the multiplayer portion of that description speaks for itself. Cyberpunk 2077 was originally intended to receive multiplayer support after release, but that plan was scrapped. Bringing multiplayer back in some form for the sequel feels like an opportunity for CD Projekt Red to realize the grand vision it wasn't fully able to execute with Cyberpunk 2077. Incidentally, fans recently started the work of bringing co-op multiplayer to Cyberpunk 2077 with a new mod name NightCoop. What else is CD Projekt Red working on besides Cyberpunk 2? Image: CD Projekt Red The studio is pretty busy right now with a number of projects in different stages of development. Next year, The Witcher 3 will receive the new Songs of the Past expansion, which CD Projekt Red co-developed with Fool's Theory. After that, The Witcher 4 is currently slated for release in 2028, starting a new trilogy. Beyond that, a Witcher 1 remake is also in development, again alongside Fool's Theory. Cyberpunk 2 will come sometime after The Witcher 4, so don't expect it anytime soon. Even with all of this, CD Projekt Red has also revealed Project Hadar, which will be the studio's next standalone IP. Just this month, the studio revealed that the project is in "the earliest stages of the creative process, which means we are not developing any game yet, but working exclusively on the foundation for this new setting."
