Sarvesh Kushare won historic silver in men's high jump, Sharmila Dhankar claimed India's first-ever CWG para athletics gold, while weightlifters Valluri Ajaya Babu, Gyaneshwari Yadav and Bindyarani Devi added three medals. LONG JUMP: KUSHARE REACHES NEW HEIGHTS Sarvesh Kushare made history by becoming the first Indian man to win a Commonwealth Games silver in high jump. He cleared 2.25m, matching Jamaica's Romaine Beckford, but lost gold on countback after both failed at 2.28m. England's Jack Kimani took bronze. Kushare's silver surpassed Tejaswin Shankar's Birmingham 2022 bronze and capped a breakthrough season for the 31-year-old. Adarsh Ram finished fifth, while Tejaswin withdrew after failing his opening 2.05m attempt. HISTORIC 1ST PARA CWG GOLD Sharmila Dhankar ended India's 20-year wait for a CWG para athletics medal, winning gold in the women's F57 shot put with a season-best 9.81m. Shilpa Shyla was subsequently upgraded to bronze after India's successful protest, giving India a one-three finish. Rakeshbhai Bhatt and Shreyansh Trivedi also reached the men's T38 100m final, finishing fifth and sixth respectively. WEIGHTLIFTERS KEEP DELIVERING Weightlifting continued to be India's most productive sport, adding three medals. Valluri Ajaya Babu won silver in men's 79kg with a 330kg total, finishing just one kilogram behind Malaysia's Erry Hidayat Muhammad. Gyaneshwari Yadav took silver in the women's 53kg category with 199kg, while Bindyarani Devi won bronze in the 58kg category with the same total. India's weightlifting medal tally reached six. BOXERS STAY ON COURSE Three Indian boxers advanced to the quarterfinals. Sachin Siwach beat England's William Hewitt 4-1 in the men's 60kg category, Ankush defeated Antigua and Barbuda's Jan Zalaan 5-0 in the men's 80kg event, and Sakshi Chaudhary beat Botswana's Lethabo Modukanele 5-0 in the women's 51kg category. Sumit was the only Indian boxer to exit, losing 1-4 to Northern Ireland's Jon McConnell in the men's 70kg event. ATHLETICS OFFERS MIXED BAG M Sreeshankar and Lokesh Sathyanathan both qualified for the men's long jump final, with Sreeshankar producing an automatic qualifying mark of 8.01m and Sathyanathan jumping 7.77m. Tejas Shirse became the first Indian to reach a CWG men's 110m hurdles final, but a navicular stress fracture limited him to eighth place. Gurindervir Singh, meanwhile, was eliminated in the 100m heats despite finishing second in his heat, clocking 10.39 seconds and ranking 28th overall. NO MEDALS IN SWIMMING India had a difficult day in swimming. Sajan Prakash finished eighth in the men's 200m butterfly final in 1:58.05, while Aryan Nehra also came eighth in the men's 800m freestyle in 8:07.26. In para swimming, Swatik Patil narrowly missed the podium, finishing fifth in the men's 100m breaststroke SB9 final. GYMNASTICS AND LAWN BOWL RESULTS Protistha Samanta finished seventh in the women's vault final in artistic gymnastics. Putul Sonowal missed out on the lawn bowls men's singles semifinals after finishing fifth in her section. India's wheelchair women's 3x3 basketball team also ended its campaign with a narrow 6-7 defeat to Nigeria, finishing the group stage with one win and four losses.
