Cursor launches Rs 649 India-only AI plan, says user base has grown 3x in 1 year

Cursor has launched its first India-specific subscription plan, Cursor Start, priced at Rs 649 per month for Indian developers. The company has launched its first India-specific subscription plan, called Cursor Start, offering Indian developers a more affordable way to access its AI-powered coding tools. Notably, this move comes at a time when the company is expected to be acquired by Elon Musk’s SpaceX."Our user base in India has tripled in the past year, with more agent requests per user than any other country," Aman Sanger, founder of Cursor, said on X. The company also described India as its third-largest market globally, highlighting the country's growing importance to its expansion plans.Cursor Start charges Rs 649 per month – specifically for India – which is quite lower than the company’s standard $20 (around Rs 1,700) Pro subscription. The new plan includes access to Cursor Composer 2.5, Grok 4.5, cloud agents, the iOS app, plugins, Model Context Protocol (MCP) support, hooks, and skills. It is aimed at developers who need more AI coding assistance than the free version offers but do not require the company's premium subscription.It’s worth noting that the India-only plan is not meant to replace Cursor’s flagship Pro tier. In other words, users subscribing to Cursor Start will not have access to the advanced AI models that Pro-tier users enjoy. For example, Cursor Start will not have OpenAI and Anthropic frontier AI models, including Bugbot, Auto Mode, Automations, or the Cursor SDK, which will remain exclusive to the higher-priced subscription. India is the first country where Cursor introduced its localised pricing. The company revealed it is because of the country's rapidly growing developer ecosystem.The India expansion comes shortly before Cursor's expected $60 billion all-stock acquisition by SpaceX, which is anticipated to close later this quarter. The acquisition is expected to strengthen SpaceX's AI ambitions by helping its AI division, built around Elon Musk's xAI, compete more effectively with leading AI companies.Curson is not the first AI startup to offer India-specific pricing.
