Popeyes wants to open a branch within 30 minutes of every Brit Credit: Getty The chain, which was founded in Louisiana, wants to have more than 350 restaurants across the country. Popeyes UK boss Tom Crowley told The Grocer that the dream was to make sure hungry customers were never more than half an hour away from a branch. Sign up for the Money newsletter Thank you! And the chain isn’t just relying on traditional high-street restaurants to make it happen. It is planning to open drive-thrus, delivery kitchens and smaller branches at busy railway stations and other transport hubs. This includes smaller branches in busy locations such as London Waterloo, alongside bigger drive-thrus. Tom said that using different types of restaurant would help the business reach even more chicken lovers. Popeyes launched in the UK in 2021 but has rapidly grown on the back of soaring consumer demand for fried chicken and American fast food. Since then, Popeyes restaurants have popped up in towns and cities across Britain. Most read in Money At the height of the rollout, the chain has been opening almost one new restaurant every week. It opened its 100th branch at London Bridge station in November last year. And despite Britain already having plenty of fried chicken restaurants to choose from, the Popeyes boss reckons there is still lots of room to grow. It comes amid a flurry of activity for chicken brands in the UK, partly driven by the launch of a raft of US chains into the UK. Rival Wingstop UK has also rapidly expanded in recent years, while other competitors including Dave’s Hot Chicken and Chick-fil-A have entered the market. How can I save money at Popeyes? If you fancy giving Popeyes a go, it’s worth checking the chain’s app before placing your order. The restaurant regularly dishes out special offers and meal deals, which could help cut the cost. Customers can also join its loyalty scheme and collect points when buying food. Those points can then be swapped for selected menu items. You should also compare delivery prices with the cost of ordering directly from Popeyes. Delivery and service fees can quickly add up, so collecting your meal may work out much cheaper. Just remember: a deal is only a bargain if you were planning to buy the food in the first place. Comment now
