No matter what system you play or plan to play, there's something exciting coming soon for tabletop players. There was even something for the Critters, fans of the most popular actual-play role-playing group in the tabletop games industry, Critical Role. Critical Role's tabletop publishing arm, Darrington Press, did more than wow with the reveal of future plans for Daggerheart, such as upcoming accessories, as well as an announcement of new collaborative projects with Roll & Play Press and Foundry Virtual Tabletop. But it was the announcement of a new Critical Role campaign that piqued our interest. Reign of the Weredragon is a new actual-play Daggerheart miniseries that combines the vibe of several classic fairy tales with an unexpectedly eerie world. While we don't know who will be starring, we do know that the series will be helmed by none other than Chris Perkins, the creative director of Darrington Press, and former Dungeons & Dragons game designer and creative director. Chris Perkins and Jeremy Crawford during a 2025 interview with Todd KenreckTodd Kenreck via Polygon Perkins has plenty of experience as a game master who is comfortable working in front of a camera. He was the Dungeon Master for Wizards of the Coast's official actual play show, Dice, Camera, Action, as well as the long-running Acquisitions Incorporated with Penny Arcade's Jerry Holkins and Mike Krahulik. Perkins co-created Reign of the Weredragon as one of the campaign settings introduced in Daggerheart's first expansion, Hope & Fear, so this new actual play show will be the best way to introduce the new product to viewers and players. Image: Critical Role Critical Role offers a big platform of shows with many campaigns and miniseries. Age of Umbra: Sallowlands — a gothic and creepy Daggerheart adventure with big names like Abubakar Salim and Jennifer English involved — will air until mid-August. At the time of writing, Reign of the Weredragon's release date has not been disclosed, but it's likely that it will be a miniseries running in parallel to Critical Role's main campaign, which used the D&D system. In the meantime, Critters still have plenty of campaigns and miniseries to satisfy themselves until Reign of the Weredragon gets here. Age of Umbra: Sallowlands' next episode releases on Twitch, YouTube, and Beacon.tv at 7 p.m. PDT. Campaign 4 will return on Aug. 27.
