His tap-in, however, came from a goal-bound shot from team-mate Mohamed Simakan. The Frenchman’s low strike was destined for the back of the net. But ever the poacher, Ronaldo diverted the ball the opposite direction and into the roof of the net. There were brief concerns that the five-time Ballon d’Or winner may have been in an offside position. But replays showed the 41-year-old was in an onside position when Simakan struck the ball. Footage of Ronaldo’s goal-poaching went viral and became the talk of footy fans around the world.
