Crisafulli’s LNP regains ground as One Nation falls from high-water mark

One Nation’s state-level support in Queensland has peaked for now, with the Crisafulli LNP government regaining primary vote ground as Pauline Hanson’s party dips back below the Labor opposition.One Nation’s four percentage point fall to 20 per cent comes alongside a mirrored boost for the LNP to 34 per cent, according to the latest two-month Resolve Political Monitor poll conducted for this masthead.Despite little change for the quarter of voters who would support Labor, the large personal and preferred premier gap between David Crisafulli and Opposition Leader Steven Miles has narrowed slightly.The latest Resolve Political Monitor poll shows Pauline Hanson’s One Nation dropping back into third place from its recent state-level high.Aresna VillanuevaWhile Miles’ net likeability score has climbed back to minus 6, Crisafulli’s has remained stable at 16. Meanwhile, the portion of voters preferring the incumbent as premier dropped 3 percentage points to 41 per cent.Resolve director Jim Reed said the LNP’s primary vote was “relatively healthy by contemporary standards”, which have seen governments in NSW, Victoria and federally fall below 30 per cent amid One Nation’s rise.“And having a right-of-centre incumbent [government in Queensland] does seem to be keeping One Nation at bay,” Reed said.State-level support for One Nation in Hanson’s home state had briefly passed the 22.6 per cent result achieved at her breakthrough 1998 Queensland election, which took the party from 0 to 11 seats.One Nation has no sitting state MPs, despite its sparingly updated state branch website still listing Stephen Andrew as the member for Mirani.
