Sign in to your TheGamer account Crimson Desert’s new Charting the Unknown DLC has a creepy and easily missable encounter waiting for players at the bottom of the ocean. Yesterday, the ridiculously stacked Crimson Desert somehow got even bigger with its first-ever paid expansion, Charting the Unknown. As the State of Play reveal trailer confirmed last month, the new DLC adds a ton of features to the game, notably including the ability to swim underwater and see what’s hiding beneath the waves. For the most part, that includes hidden treasure, long-lost ruins, and a bunch of aquatic life, such as a shark that you can ride around on like it’s no big deal. What is a big deal, though, is a secret monster that can be found if you ignore the game’s advice and continue diving far deeper than you’re supposed to. You Can Release The Kraken In Crimson Desert’s New DLC You Probably Won’t Want To, Though As pointed out by Twitter user TheRealZephryss, Pearl Abyss decided to include a creepy easter egg for Crimson Desert players who ignore its advice and go out of bounds. Swimming too far down into the ocean will cause the game to flash a “Cannot enter this region” warning with an eerie countdown. While this would usually just result in the player being booted back up to where they’re meant to be, Crimson Desert uses its new water theme to its advantage and triggers a hidden cutscene with a kraken. Perhaps unsurprisingly, that cutscene does not go well for the player, as they quickly get dragged down into the depths to sleep with the fishes. The kraken encounter may just be a cheeky way of stopping players from going too far off course, but it does have a bit of a purpose beyond being a neat easter egg, since it also lets you learn about the creature. Even if that wasn’t the case, it’s yet another example of how much thought goes into a game that’s already unbelievably massive. It’s also worth noting that Crimson Desert’s DLC hasn’t even been out for 24 hours yet, and it’s already giving players plenty of weird secrets to uncover. God knows what else is going to be found over the next few days, but I’m here for whatever it ends up being. Crimson Desert Released March 19, 2026 ESRB Mature 17+ / Blood, Drug Reference, Intense Violence, Strong Language Developer(s) Pearl Abyss Publisher(s) Pearl Abyss Genre(s) Action, Adventure, Open-World, Exploration
