Cricketer completes incredible 62-MILE run to shatter Guinness World Record for longest bowling run-up ever

CLUB cricketer Sam Bodoano has completed a World Record 62-MILE run up to bowl a ball. With a group of pals and a support team, he vlogged throughout the journey. Recording, he posted online at London Bridge after 10km, then whilst still going a few hours later at 5.11am. During the early morning video he was so tired he walked into a lamppost, saying: “That’s good content, right.” He told the BBC before setting off: “I saw a video of the current record holder, who managed 24km (15 miles), and thought: ‘I’ve got to give this a go.’ “I’ve then got to go straight into playing a proper match, with umpires, scorers and two teams of 11.” Sam added: “The run beforehand is going to take me 14 hours or so and my dad will be the batsman facing me when I finally get to bowl that first ball. But I might actually get him out, you never know.” Sam and friends still had 50km and eight hours to go as they were cheered on by fans. With the plan to bowl his ball at 2pm on Sunday, Sam got in ahead of time. And he was out batting before long with Valley End capturing some his big shots. He helped raise more than £3,200 for the Ruth Strauss Foundation in the process. The charity, named after former England captain and batter Andrew Strauss’ late wife, helps support families who have been impacted by someone with cancer. Sam’s profile says: “It’s an amazing charity that supports families dealing with bereavement and the incredibly difficult experience of a terminal cancer diagnosis, in memory of Ruth Strauss. “I’ve always loved cricket and running, so being able to bring the two together for such an important cause means a lot to me.” The running content creator finished a park run (5k) in under 20 minutes whilst wearing a full set of cricket pads and carrying a bat in the build-up.
