The CPI(M) Andhra Pradesh unit has extended support to the nationwide strike call by bank employees on Friday, demanding that the BJP-led Union government immediately resolve their issues. In a statement on Thursday, CPI(M) State secretary V. Srinivasa Rao appealed to the public to express solidarity with the striking bank employees. He said the strike aimed to protect the public sector banking system and oppose what he described as corporate exploitation. “This struggle is not merely for the rights of the bank employees, but also against the Union government’s policies aimed at handing over the banking system to private players,” he said.Mr Srinivasa Rao alleged that public sector banks were being weakened in the name of mergers and the write-off of thousands of crores of rupees in loans taken by corporates. The CPI(M) leader demanded that the Union government withdraw such policies and take steps to protect the public sector banking system.
