CPI(M) demands action against Pudukad police officers over motorbike-ramming incident

The Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] Thrissur district committee has demanded criminal action against police personnel accused of deliberately ramming their vehicle into a motorcycle carrying three youths in Pudukad.Describing the incident as an act of violence reminiscent of the “brutalities of the Emergency,” K.V. Abdul Khader, the party’s Thrissur district secretary, sought an explanation from Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala on why a case had not been registered against the police officers involved.The youths, Amal Krishna, Abhilash, and Vishnu, were travelling on a motorcycle when a police vehicle allegedly hit them from behind. They were thrown onto the road and sustained injuries. The police personnel allegedly left the scene without attending to the injured youths, Mr. Abdul Khader alleged.‘Deliberate attempt’He referred to the phone conversation allegedly involving police personnel, which was released recently by Prasanna, Amal Krishna’s mother. The conversation was reportedly recorded inadvertently on a mobile phone and, according to the party, indicates that the officers had intended to hit the youths with the vehicle.Ms. Prasanna has repeatedly approached senior police officials, including the DGP, DIG and Rural SP, seeking action against the personnel, but no effective action has been taken so far, the CPI(M) alleged.The CPI(M) district committee alleged that the incident involved serious criminal misconduct and demanded that a criminal case be registered against the accused officers and that they be removed from service.
