Sandosh Kumar has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging him to protect students from intimidation online and offline, and to direct authorities to withdraw all cases filed against protesters without delayMr. Kumar said students drove the protest movement themselves, without political manipulation. He said repeated paper leaks, a failing examination system and the suicides of twenty students pushed the movement forward, and that it forced Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan to resign.Mr. Kumar said videos have surfaced showing right wing groups surrounding and intimidating protesters at Connaught Place in Delhi, including those who documented the demonstrations on social media. He also cited reports that RSS workers visited the homes of student protesters and pressured their parents to make the students give up their political views.Mr. Kumar contrasted Mr. Modi’s use of social media to reach young people with what he called a campaign of harassment carried out by the Prime Minister’s political allies. He said a government confident in its legitimacy would not let ideological mobs target students who sought only a fair education system. Published - August 04, 2026 11:58 pm IST
