Coyote Vs. Acme Runtime Officially Sets Record In Looney Tunes Franchise

Coyote vs. Acme, the latest theatrical Looney Tunes movie, has already set a record for the long-running franchise ahead of its release. When Warner Bros. Pictures canceled Coyote vs. Acme’s release in November 2023 to obtain a tax write-off, it seemed like an open-and-shut case that the public would never get to see it, just like what happened with Batgirl in summer 2022. Then, in March 2025, Ketchup Entertainment acquired the live-action/CGI hybrid movie for reportedly $50 million. Coyote vs. Acme is now just a few weeks away from opening in theaters, and it’s officially going to be one of the longest Looney Tunes movies yet. According to Fandango, Coyote vs. Acme clocks in at one hour and 43 minutes, making it the second-longest Looney Tunes movie. 2021’s Space Jam: A New Legacy is at the top of this list with a runtime of one hour and 55 minutes. Both last year’s The Day the Earth Blew Up and 2003’s Looney Tunes: Back in Action are one hour and 31 minutes long, while the first Space Jam movie, which was released in 1996, comes in last place at one hour and 27 minutes. This is a decently-long runtime for Wile E. Coyote to snag the cinematic spotlight for himself following minor appearances in the previous live-action/CGI Looney Tunes movies. Coyote vs. Acme’s release also comes nearly 80 years after both Wile and the Road Runner debuted in 1949’s “Fast and Furry-ous,” which was directed by Chuck Jones, and written by Michael Maltese. Ketchup previously released The Day the Earth Blew Up, i.e. the first fully animated Looney Tunes movie, in North America. As clearly laid out in the title, Coyote vs. Acme sees the title protagonist filing a lawsuit against the title company after years of its products failing him in his pursuit of the Road Runner. Wile is represented by Will Forte’s Kevin Avery, a down-on-his-luck lawyer, while John Cena’s Buddy Crane, Kevin’s former boss at the law firm he used to work for, serves as the Acme Corporation’s legal representation. The Coyote vs. Acme cast also includes Lana Condor, Tone Bell, P.J. Byrne, Martha Kelly, and Luis Guzmán, and Looney Tunes characters like Porky Pig, Foghorn Leghorn, and Tweety Bird will also appear. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows’ Dave Green directed the feature, and May December’s Samy Burch wrote the script based off a story she crafted with James Gunn and Jeremy Slater. Coyote vs. Acme filmed from March to May 2022 in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and DNEG handled the visual effects and Looney Tunes characters' animation. Coyote vs. Acme held its world premiere at San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday, July 25, and it will open wide on August 28. Prior to Warner Bros. scrapping its original release, the Looney Tunes movie was slated for July 21, 2023, the slot that Barbie later occupied.
