Couple make incredible 100-year-old discovery while lifting their floorboards during renovation

A COUPLE living in the UK were left stunned after making an incredible discovery under their floorboards that dates back over 100 years. While renovating their home the couple found a collection of items from the 1920s. Inside, the couple found fabric samples, sewing supplies, old adverts, a snuff tin and a pattern ticket. “You never really know what you’re going to find when you start lifting floorboards and opening things up,” Ema, from Kent, told NeedToKnow. Inside was a collection of fabric samples, sewing supplies, old adverts, a snuff tin and a pattern ticket Credit: JamPress The couple believe the items date back to 1921 and belonged to a local business that worked at the house Credit: JamPress “We weren’t specifically looking for anything, it was one of those completely unexpected discoveries that you come across when you start opening up an old house. “We knew buying a Victorian house meant there would be plenty of history, but actually finding something that had been left there over 100 years ago was completely unexpected.” The couple are in the middle of redeveloping the property into their “dream home”, but the recent discovery has put a temporary halt to renovation work as the couple try to trace the history of the items. Ema said: “There are actually some clues that suggest the items were connected to a local business that worked at our house. Most read in The Sun “One of the items appears to have the address of the property on it, which makes me think it may have belonged to a tradesperson who worked here at the time. “I immediately started wondering who had used them, why they were left there and what the house was like when these items were originally being used. “It makes you look at the house slightly differently, knowing that someone was standing in the same rooms over 100 years ago.” Rather than toss the time capsule, Ema is keen to preserve its history and plans to display the items once her home is renovated. “One of the things I love about renovating an old house is discovering these little pieces of its history,” she added. “This was definitely one of the most unexpected discoveries we’ve made so far.” Comment now
