Taste of Country reported that Wilkins, 27, and Patel, 46, have been dating since 2023. The site said they first met at a ReAwaken America event. For the most part, per the outlet, the romance was off the radar until Wilkins stood behind Patel when he was sworn in as FBI Director in February.Their relationship drew scrutiny late last year after MS Now reported Monday that Wilkins has an FBI security detail assigned to her. The outlet reported that Wilkins, who lives and works out of Nashville like a lot of country music artists, has a detail that consists of elite agents who are normally assigned to the SWAT team at the FBI’s Nashville office. “Ms. Wilkins is receiving a protective detail because she has faced hundreds of credible death threats related to her relationship with Director Patel, whom she has been dating for three years,” an FBI spokesperson told The Hill. “Out of respect for her safety, we will not be providing additional details.” The outlet reported that it was “unusual” for the SWAT members to be used for security details, and that other spouses of directors who received details were living with the director. Patel and Wilkins did not live together and did not live in the same city at the time, and the use of the elite agents created a stir on social media.“There is no legitimate justification for this,” former senior FBI agent Christopher O’Leary told MS Now. “She is not his spouse, does not live in the same house or even the same city.“I would also add that this comes at a time when security details were stripped from people who are under threat from (Iran).”Brian Linder is the trending editor at PennLive.com.
